ABOUT THE SHOW:

A gothic horror rock musical, "CarnEvil" tells the tale of Danny Farinelli, a well-meaning convict who returns to help his family's down-on-its-luck carnival, and the sinister Craven Moon who conspires to unleash the dark powers hiding inside. "CarnEvil" utilizes themes inspired by H.P. Lovecraft with a complex and varied rock musical score performed by a live band. The show aims to truly frighten the audience with a sense of dread and horror balanced by moments of comic relief. Puppetry, magic, animation and special effects will be incorporated into the show. "CarnEvil" has many roles for strong actors, vocalists and movers.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

Prepare two song selections: 16 bars of a pop/rock ballad, and 16 bars of a non-musical theater up-tempo rock song. Piano accompaniment will be available, please bring sheet music.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Danny Farinelli – Male, early to mid 20s. Wide range rock tenor. Bred to be a showman in his family’s carnival. Haunted by a traumatic past. Struggling with a power beyond understanding. Dark, mysterious, sexy, captivating. Strong actor and rock singer. Good mover. Slight-of-hand magic a plus but not required.

Serena Farinelli – Female, mid 20s to mid 30s. Mezzo/alto. Danny’s cousin. Has the tough, rough-around-the-edges quality of a woman who has run a carnival for 10 years. She is prone to mothering. Running a traveling carnival has denied her the experience of love which has caused a deep resentment towards her family and the business. Strong actress and singer. Good mover.

Albert Renaldo – Male, mid 20s to mid 30s. Tenor. Albert suffers from a condition called Hypertrichosis which causes every part of his body to be covered with hair. He is a true freak. Great sense of humor. A clown. He is also the narrator of the show so needs a formality as well. Strong physical abilities and acting chops a must. Strong vocalist.

Abner Farinelli – Male, 40s to early 60s. Tenor. Serena’s father and Danny’s uncle. A bitter, angry old man. A lost drunk. Gave his life up for a failing carnival. Strong rock singer.

Craven Moon – Male, mid 30s to mid 50s. Wide range tenor/baritone. A slick con man and owner of a traveling freak show. Courtly. Behind his charm hides a twisted sociopath with dark obsessions routed to a very painful childhood. Strong actor and singer. Good mover.

Jerry “Gator Man” Grant – Male, age range open. Baritone/bass. A carnie from the Louisiana bayou. He wrestles alligators for the carnival. He is a bit slow in the “back-woods” sense. Has a deep emotional connection to his gators. Physically imposing but very sweet. Good mover and singer. Requires dialect.

Vinchenzo Zacchini – Male, age range open. Baritone/bass. “The Great Vinchenzo”. A magician who specializes in sawing people in half. One of Craven’s henchman. Menacing and sly, an evil sense of humor. Experience with magic a major bonus. Good mover and singer.

Levi “Torch” Richie – Male, age range open. Baritone/bass. A fire-eater for the carnival. Experience with fire-eating a major bonus. Dancer. Good singer.

Linda “Skip” Walker – Female, age range open. Vocal range open. A female carnie. Strong and tough, could be any height or build. Tattooed. Good vocalist. Dancer.

Tina Van Winkle – Female, 20’s. Soprano with strong belt. One half of the Van Winkle Sisters. Siamese twins. Very sexy… and evil. One of Craven’s henchwomen. Good dancer. Strong vocalist.

Mina Van Winkle – Female, 20’s. Mezzo with strong belt. The other half of the Van Winkle Sisters. Siamese twin. Very sexy… and also evil. One of Craven’s henchwomen. Good dancer. Strong vocalist.

Sasha – Female, age range open. Soprano. The fortune teller. Anywhere from gypsy to bayou. One of Craven’s henchwomen. Good singer. Dancer.

Ensemble - Male/Female, age range open.  Versatile actors to play multiple smaller roles. Good singer, strong dancer.

Female Ensemble – Versatile actress to play multiple smaller roles. Good singer/dancer.
