SUMMARY: Mark has been dating the wonderful and kind Kate, and is getting ready to propose to her when she suddenly dies. Bereft, Mark is ready to commit suicide, and he begs god to let him go to Heaven rather than Hell so he can see her. He dreams of seeing her again, replaying their last day in reverse, and has a vision of her being separated from him. He awakens to a knock at the door...

SUMMARY:  Mark awakens in the afterlife, which, as he learns when he checks in with gatekeeper Cassandra, is neither heaven nor hell. He wants to see Kate badly, but she won't tell him how to find her. In the afterlife, information must be earned. That night, as he settles into his new room, he gets a visit from a woman named Bianca, who doesn't know Kate - but knows OF her. But before she can help him, a voice booms out, looking for her; she shouldn't be there - she's breaking the rules. When Mark tries to ask her questions, she suddenly becomes threatening. It turns out that in the afterlife, there is still fear...
