SUMMARY: During World War II, an arrogant Nazi
commandant appoints Henri - who he insists on addressing as
"Heinrich" - the head of the notorious Pigalle district.
Henri is a pimp, and his friend and trusted second Franco is
having an affair with his ex-wife, Cosette. Henri is
enraged when Yves has blackened the eye of one of his girls,
Marie. Henri might have been able to forgive Yves... but
Marie is his niece. Henri strangles Yves, then, while
apologizing to the trembling Marie that he cannot provide a
better life for her, advises her that she will need to become
tough, and apologize to nobody, or she won't last long in this
world. |
